There was a time when TweetDeck was available for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and the web. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Both mobile versions have been axed, and so has the Windows version. The only versions that are still alive are TweetDeck for web and TweetDeck for Mac (which hasn’t been updated in almost 2 years at the time of writing this).

Right now, Windows users who want to enjoy TweetDeck on their PCs have two options. Option number 1: use TweetDeck for web, which works with any web browser. And option number 2: go get TweetDuck, a free and open source application that is officially presented as a desktop client for TweetDeck.

Switching from TweetDeck to TweetDuck shouldn’t be a problem. Installing TweetDuck will take but a moment, and logging into your Twitter account will take but a moment as well. The interface is pretty much the same as TweetDeck’s, so you will immediately feel at home. The functionality is pretty much the same as well, so you already know what you’re going to get. Even the settings and customization options are basically the same.

TweetDuck is free and open source software that requires Windows 7 or newer and .NET Framework 4.5.2 or newer. If you find this desktop application useful, please consider making a donation to support its development. Speaking about development, it must be mentioned that TweetDuck is actively developed and maintained by chylex, a software developer from the Czech republic.

So what if Twitter decided to axe TweetDeck for desktop? You can get the same sort of functionality from TweetDuck!

Pros

Installing TweetDuck on a Windows PC takes little time and effort. The interface is pretty much the same as TweetDeck’s; several customization options are available for said interface. The functionality is basically the same as TweetDeck’s. TweetDuck is free and open source software (donations are welcome).

Cons

None that I could think of.
